Winter can be a period of relentless snow and prolonged subfreezing temperatures. It often prevents you from engaging in social activities you enjoy the most.
According to a recent study from Brigham Young University, spending time with friends cuts your risk of an early death in half. Julianne Holt-Lunstad, head of the research team, told Rueters News Service, “A lack of social relationships was equivalent to smoking up to 15 cigarettes a day.”
The study, which pulled information from over 300,000 participants in 148 studies, found that strong social relationships have an extremely positive effect on health. “Thoughout human history, we have relied on others for survival such as protection and food, and despite modern advancements that may [help with] certain aspects of survival so that we can live more independently, it appears that our relationships nonetheless still impact odds of survival,” said Holt-Lunstad.
The opportunity to enjoy friendships and group activities are abundant at Clark-Lindsey. From a bridge game to group exercise classes, or even a morning cup of coffee, you’ll find warm and caring relationships. It’s another benefit of life at The Village.
